Albany-- Albany City planners are debating whether to change the city's sign ordinance to deal with technology changes in outdoor advertising. Several electronic billboards went up recently in the Albany area. Some city officials wonder if those signs could distract drivers. The bright electronic billboards cycle as many as six different advertisements about every ten seconds.

Now, Leaders think a new ordinance is needed to deal with the advances in advertising. "our original intent is to rectify our ordinance or clean it up, if you will from a legal standpoint or constitutionality standpoints, because there are so many challenges against sign ordinances all across the state these days" said Tracy Hester Development Services manager.

The Albany Planning Commission hopes to have changes in the ordinance soon after today's regularly scheduled commission meeting.
