Albany - After clearing a big hurdle by beating Young Harris to win the region title, the top ranked Darton College women's soccer team facies an even bigger hurdle at the district tournament this weekend in Lakeland, Florida. T
The Lady Cavs need two wins to qualify for the National Junior College Tournament Darton will host in two weeks.
The Lady Cavs will play Shelton State in the district semifinals and if they win they will likely play tournament host Polk Communtity College in the district finals on Saturday.
Darton defeated Shelton State early in the season but coach Ken Veilands remembers two years ago.
That is when his team beat Shelton State 6-0 in the regular season but had to go into overtime to beat Shelton in the district finals.
Darton women's soccer coach Ken Veilands saud"Very good coach over there and she has studied tape. She is prepared for this game and I know she is going to make it tough on us. We know we can't look past them."
Darton sophomore forward Cherelle Alberts said "They are obviously in the district for some reason and we are there for a reason too. Hopefully, we can go all the way and bring nationals home."
Darton plays Shelton State at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning in Lakeland, Florida.
The Lady Cavs need to win that match and Saturday's district finals in order to earn a spot in the NJCAA women's soccer tournament.
