Albany -- At a morning press conference at the Albany-Dougherty Chamber of Commerce, local chamber officials introduced representatives from Wal-Mart, who verified the long held hope that the world's biggest retailer would in fact be building a new super store in East Albany.

Months ago, the residents of the Georgia Mobile Home Estates, at Clark Avenue and Georgia 300, were told to find other accommodations, which prompted talk of a new Wal-Mart east of the Flint River. When no announcement was made, many thought that Wal-Mart would not come after all.

Despite today's announcement, the store will not take shape over-night. Officials say it could be as long as two years before it is open for business.

And business is expected to be quite good in East Albany. Chamber officials believe the store would generate between $110 million and $150 million per year.

The store will be one of the largest in the nation, at 187,000 square feet. There would also be an additional 45,000 square feet of retail space in four out parcels around the store.

Wal-Mart expects to create as many as 350 new jobs with the addition of the new store.
