There is nothing like making your picks on Halloween but my results last week were very scary. I missed seven of the big games but still had a winning week and my total for the season is 64-22. With two weeks left in the regulars season, making picks is not going to be easy because everyone is playing for postseason berths and the all important seeding.
Monroe at Cairo
The Tornadoes still can win the 1-AAA title by winning their final two games and avoiding a head to head tie with Westover. The problem for Monroe is they have to play a Cairo team that has been dominating everyone else in the region. If the Tornadoes are to beat the Syrupmakers, they will have to outscore them. I don't think that is possible...Cairo 35-25
Worth Co. at Dougherty
This game is even bigger as the one in Cairo because the winner likely earns a playoff berth. Dougherty has lost two straight while Worth County looks like they are ready to ride a strong defense to another big finish...Worth County 22-20
Westover at Crisp Co.
The Patriots are city champions but still have plenty of work to do. Crisp County may be in last place in the region but a break here or there and they could be in first or second. Patriots better show up for this game or they will be headed back to Albany with a loss...Somebody pack the antacids for Jeff Caldwell...Westover 27-26
Tift Co. at Lowndes
Jay Walls has done a terrific job in turning the injury ridden Blue Devils around. Two straight wins have Tift County in the playoff picture but the defending region champs get Lowndes on a night when the Vikings can reclaim the 1-AAAAA title... Lowndes 32-15
Warner Robins at Colquitt County
Despite just one win the region, the Packers can still make the playoffs by winning their final two games. Warner Robins has lost three straight and the Packers appear to be getting better each week...Colquitt County 27-23
Valdosta at Houston County(Saturday)
The Wildcats head into their final regular season game already knowing they will be playing at home when the playoffs start in two weeks and the fact the Cats get two weeks to get ready for the postseason should help..Another thing that would help the Cats is to enter the postseason with a win over the Bears....Valdosta 39-12
Lee Co. at Central-Phenix City
The 1-7 Trojans just cannot catch a break. David Johnson team travels to play a Central squad coming off an overtime loss to one of their big rivals. That means the Red Devils will not be in a good mood... Central 23-8
Cook at Fitzgerald
The Purple Hurricanes return home for a third straight big game. Fitzgerald may have lost a region game for the first time in four years but the Canes can still get second by winning out or win the region if it ends in a three-way tie. Cook High has plenty of offense but the Canes have even more...Fitzgerald 34-26
Thomasville at Randolph-Clay
The big bad Bulldogs take a six game winning streak into Coleman to face a Randolph-Clay team that has one of the top backs in the state in Chris Clay who had one of his best games last year against the Bulldogs. Thomasville hasn't forgotten that game and will not overlook the Red Devils with Early County coming to the Rose City next week...Thomasville 41-25
Miller Co. at Clinch Co.
The region 1-A title will be decided Friday night in Homerville. Miller County has had a great season but stumbled the last time they had to make a long road trip. And the bad news is the Panthers looked like the Panthers last week in Pearson... Clinch Co. 29-18
Wilcox Co. at Dooly Co.
The unbeaten Bobcats are back at the Grove for a showdown with the Patriots who posted an impressive shutout of Hawkinsville. The one thing these two teams have in common is they both have played Turner County in Ashburn. Wilcox County lost a close game and Dooly County had no problem with the Rebels...This game may be the best in the state this week..Dooly County 15-14
Turner Co. at Irwin Co.
The other game in this sub-region is just as important for the Rebels where a loss to the Indians will mean Turner County will not have a chance to make the state playoffs. It is kind of puzzling how the Rebels can handle a team like Wilcox County and then drop two straight. The Indians are tough at home and that may be the difference in this one...Irwin County 30-29
Stratford at Deerfield-Windsor
The Knights are back after a week off needing two wins to claim the GISA AAA South region championship. Deerfield-Windsor 34-29
First Presbyterian at Sherwood Christian
The Eagles continue to play well but still cannot get a win for their effort. I am afraid that will not change against the Vikings...FPD 37-19
Tiftarea at Brookwood
The number one ranked Warriors had an impressive road win against a very good Valwood team last week while the Panthers also looked good in their victory over SGA. Panthers though are a young team and that youth will not help against the mighty Warriors....Brookwood 36-22
Southwest Georgia at Valwood
Noted above both of these squad lost the region openers and neither wants to fall to 0-2 in the region...Valwood 35-27
