Region title still on the line in Cairo

October 30, 2007

Albany - The game everyone in region 1-AAA has waited for is finally here.

Only the one thing most didn't expect is that Monroe would be traveling down to Cairo coming off a region loss.

Monroe's loss to cross-town rival Westover has not changed anything about the Tornadoes game this week at Cairo.

It is still for the region title.

Cairo will clinch the region crown with a win.

But Monroe will have the upper hand in the region race with a second straight win over the Syrupmakers.

If Monroe wins their final two games, the Tornadoes would win a three way tiebreaker with Cairo and Westover or head to head with the Syrupmakers.

Cairo coach Tom Fallaw said "It still means the same. We know the winner of this has the advantage of winning the region championship. Our goal all year has been to win a region championship, and the kids kind of have that opportunity this week, so we'll see how we do."

Charles Truitt said "We have a chance to still fight and win the region. At the beginning of the year we knew we'd have to beat Cairo to win the region title. We have to go play a tough ballgame in their home town, and hopefully we can bounce back and have a good game."

Monroe and Cairo start at 7:30 p.m. Friday  at West-Thomas Stadium in Cairo.

If you can't make it to the game, catch the highlights from the Locker Room Friday night at 11 on WALB News 10 and at
