Shooting details still uncertain

October 30, 2007

Albany-  The investigation into a shooting late Monday at Wright Turf is on hold until police can talk to the victim and until his condition improves, that impossible.

Alberto Grese Gonzales remains in critical condition in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Gonzales was shot once by his coworker Hollis Raiford Howze after an argument between the two went too far.

The argument first started Sunday when Gonzales accused Howze of trying to run him over. Dougherty County Police tried again today to talk with Gonzales, but he's unable to speak.

"We don't know his level of fluency of the English language and we're trying to establish that now so we can obtain a translator if we need one," said Captain Jimmy Sexton, Dougherty County Police.

Howze is charged with aggravated assault.
