New era tips off at Monroe

October 29, 2007

Albany - The high school basketball season will get started in three weeks.

Monday was the first day teams in Georgia could hold their first official practice.

At Monroe, it is the first practice for first year head coach Marquis Davis.

The former Dougherty High assistant coach and player is now the head coach at the Trojans biggest rival.

The new coach doesn't have a lot of starters returning but he is very optimistic about the Tornadoes' prospects in his first season.

Marquis Davis said "We have got a good group of guys coming from the junior varsity and a couple of guys who are coming back from last year. We have got James Lee and Anthony Mackey who is showing a lot of leadership this year. We are looking forward to having a good year even though we don't have a lot of seniors."

Marquis Davis first game as a head coach will be against Albany High at the annual tip off games on November 20th at Albany State.

Dougherty and Westover will also be in action on November 20th.
