Lee County falls in extra innings in round one

Columbus -  Lee County has used strong pitching and solid defense to make it to the AAAA finals for the first time in school history.

The Lady Trojans played to their strengths behind the arm of Brittny Dennison and solid defensive work behind her.

 Lee County could not scatch a run off Cherokee's Abbey Meixel.

Cherokee finally plates a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Lee County 1-0 in the opening round of the Georgia High School Association State Finals in Columbus.

Lee County will play Friday at 11:00 a.m. against Whitewater.

In AAAAA, Lowndes jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Lassiter but Lassiter rallies to win 4-3.  Lowndes had two runners on base when their final out in the seventh inning was caught at the fence to rob the Vikettes of a three-run homerun.

Tift County beat Grayson 3-2 but the Lady Blue Devils lost to Lassiter 4-2 in the afternoon.

Lowndes will play Grayson at 9:00 a.m. Friday and Tift County will play at 1:00 p.m..

In AA, Berrien shut out LaFayette 4-0 but was then shutout by Greater Atlanta Christian 8-0 on Thursday night.

Berrien will play the winner of Friday morning's game between Savannah Christian and Southeast Bulloch.

The Berrien game will start at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
