Leesburg - Lee County's long awaited dream to play in the state finals in Columbus will be fulfilled Thursday.
The Lady Trojans will play Cherokee in their first game in the double elimination Georgia High School Asscoation elite eight .
After coming one win short of reaching their goal of Columbus the last two years, head coach Lynn Avery says her team has been walking two feet off the ground since beating Northside Warner Robins last Saturday and clinching their ticket to Columbus.
Coach Avery believes that excitement will only grow this weekend.
Lynn Avery said "I think the atmosphere in Columbus is going to be that much better than it was at sectionals because all classifications will be there. There will be a lot of college coaches watching. I don't know there is just a lot of excitement this time of year."
Lee County is one of four area teams in the state finals. In AAAAA, Tift County plays Grayson and Lowndes is paired with Lassiter at noon Thursday while Lee County and Berrien plays Lafayette will be in action at 2:00 p.m..
The state softball finals run through Saturday in Columbus.
