Americus-  An Americus firefighter is charged with sexual battery.

Police say the sexual assault happened at Fire Station one Thursday. The 19 year old victim filed the report against 47 year old Gerald Whitehead, who surrendered Monday. The woman says Whitehead inappropriately touched her while she was visiting a family member at the fire station.

"A good portion of the events were admitted to by the fire fighter, so based on his information and the information we had we went ahead and took the warrants for sexual battery," said Americus Police Chief James Green.

Whitehead is on administrative leave.
