Beijing -- China's product safety chief talked with reporters in Beijing about toy safety just weeks before the start of the holiday shopping season.

He insisted that children around the world still love toys made in China despite recent recalls. The chief promised that Chinese toy makers will do their best to make safe and reliable toys for Christmas.

Leading toy maker Mattel has been forced to recall about 21 million Chinese made toys because they were made using led paint or contained small parts that could become choking hazards.

The company has admitted the recalls were the fault of its own designs and specifications and not Chinese manufacturers.

Despite China's promise, 75 percent of people polled say they will not buy toys made in the country.
