ADDU fully staffed

October 16, 2007

Albany - For the first time in two years, the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit is up to full staff. Three additional officers were hired by the city Monday, bringing to 24 the number of officers now assigned to ADDU.

Drug Unit Commander Major Derrell Smith says the additional officers not only will help get more drugs off the streets, but will keep the officers safe. He said, "It's a dangerous job and you don't want to split your shifts if you don't have enough people to make each shift safe, so now we'll be able to split shifts."

It will take several months for the officers to be trained.
