Lady Cougars repeat as region softball champions

Cairo - Crisp County got back on track in time to win another region 1-AAA softball title. 

The Lady Cougars lost their final region game to Worth County and then were beaten 9-2 in the second of the region tournament by Westover.

The Lady Cougars came storming back with a win Wednesday over Monroe and then a victory over Cairo on Thursday.

Crisp County then Worth County 9-4 on Saturday morning to advance to the championship game against the Lady Patriots.

Crisp County won the first game 5-2 and Ashley Holt pitched the Lady Cougars to the region title with 3-0 victory over Westover in the second and deciding game.

Crisp County, Westover, Worth County and Cairo all advance to the AAA south sectionals next week in Dublin.

The GISA state softball tournament started today in Dublin.

Terrell Academy beat David Emanuel 16-0 and Curtis Bapist 13-3 to advance to the Class A final four where they will play defending state champion LaGrange next Saturday.

In AAA, Southland loses two games to George Walton.
