Albany -- The Exchange Club of Albany honored two emergency first responders Friday for their outstanding service to the community.

Sam Allen was named the Paramedic of the Year for the Dougherty County EMS. Allen has worked as a paramedic for 15 years. He also helps repair and install their emergency equipment.  He said the thanks from people in the community helps.  Allen said "I occasionally run into people who say you came to my house at two in the morning and took care of me to the best of everything I could, and absolutely, it makes all the difference, it makes it all worth it."

Anthony Blocker was named the Firefighter of the Year. On March 12th Blocker rescued an unconscious woman from a burning house on 8th Avenue. Blocker said he accepted the honor for his fellow firefighters.  Blocker said "with the help of my crew, we do well working together."

Blocker and Allen were presented plaques and a check from the Exchange Club members to thank them for their service.
