Albany -- A lot of folks in South Georgia donated their time to community service projects Friday.

The United Way teamed up with the Marine Corps Logistics Command on several projects.

About 250 volunteers split into 20 teams. Those teams were involved in a dozen projects throughout the area.

Two of those teams worked on Habitat for Humanity houses. But providing service is not nothing new for the men and women of the Logistics Command unit.

"We are in fact a service organization. We provide service to the Marines when they are out in the battle field, and we like to bring that same service attitude to the community, said commanding general, Major General Willie J. Williams.

Several of the projects started Friday will continue through the weekend.

The Day of Caring is something that both the United Way and the Marine Corps Logistics Command want to make an annual event.
