Lee County May Look at Billing School Board

October 11, 2007

Lee County - - Lee County's Administrator says it's too late for the county to consider a fee for collecting school taxes, but its something the commission could consider next year.

Georgia law allows counties to charge school districts a 2.5 % fee to process ad valorem taxes for schools.

It would bring in $100,000 to Lee County. But Lee County hasn't requested that fee. They might in the future.

Commissioner Dennis Roland says it's a bad idea because it could just force the school board to raise taxes.
