Valdosta - In the summer there were two games on the Valdosta State schedule the Blazers knew would be most likely the biggest in determining whether they would win the Gulf South Conference title and get back into the NCAA Division II playoffs.
One of those games is Thursday night in Valdosta when the 5th ranked Blazers host 8th ranked Delta State.
Both of the these teams are unbeaten and both are very similar.
They score points in bunches and they don't give up many if any points to their opponents.
Another factor that makes this game even bigger is that Valdosta State is ranked first in the first NCAA regional poll of the season.
As long as VSU stays there they are assured of being at home for at least the first two rounds of the playoffs.
But head coach David Dean says that is putting the cart before the horse.
David Dean said "This is just an other step for us. We are taking this as the sixth step in the season. Hopefully, we can go to 6-0. We know it is going to take a very good effort. We are going to have to go out and play well against a very good football team."
Delta State snapped a five game losing streak to Valdosta State last year in Cleveland, Mississippi.
The Blazers hope to start a new streak Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium where VSU fans are asked to wear black.
