Arrest made in car dealership burglaries

October 9, 2007

Albany -- Albany Police arrested a suspect in a series of crimes at car dealerships,  but they won't identify the man because they're still looking for other suspects.

Two Cadillacs, valued at more than 40-thousand dollars each, and a Chevrolet Cavalier were stolen from the repair shop at Edwards Motors on West Ogelthorpe Sunday night. The two Cadillacs were found Monday morning when their On-Star G.P.S. Systems was activated.

Three blocks away McDonald's Used Cars was also hit Sunday night. Crooks stole stereo systems and other items from cars. Clifford McDonald says weekend thefts are becoming a big problem for car dealers on Ogelthorpe. " No, it happens quite often. I can't say it happens every week. I've got another one back there I didn't report, in the back. Because it doesn't do that much good to report it."

Someone also broke into a truck at M and M Auto Sales on South Slappey and stole a radio. Officers say they'll patrol the used car lots more often.
