Albany -- Friends and family gathered at the Cox family home Monday morning, just hours before Justin Cox' funeral.
His parents wanted us to show this picture of the 19 year old, in hopes that someone would call them with information. Teresa Cox said "somebody killed my baby, and I want to know who, and why."
Justin Cox body was found in the Flint River at the Turner Boat Landing Thursday night by two Turner Job Corps students. An autopsy shows he died from a blow to the head. He didn't drown, there was no water in his lungs, indicating he was dead when he hit the water. Late Monday afternoon, Albany police re-classified the case as a homicide.
Justin disappeared Wednesday night. He didn't show up for work at Kentucky Fried Chicken Thursday and, by Thursday night, his mother called deputies. Shortly after filing a missing persons report, his parents found his car abandoned at the Albany Civic Center, six miles downstream from where his body was found. Justin's family and Police are asking you to look at this picture, and call if you have any information. Charles Cox said "if they have seen him walking, or somebody picked him up, or saw somebody riding in the car with him."
The Cox buried their son at a family cemetery near Poulan, and say they are still devastated by the 19 year old's death. Now they plead for information, to find out who murdered him and dumped him in the River. Teresa Cox said "somebody knows something. From Wednesday night till when we found him, somebody had to have seen him or been with him. Something. Somebody knows something ."
And this grieving family is asking that somebody answer their questions, why Justin Cox is dead.
