Cotton festival draws crowds in Berlin

October 6, 2007

Berlin -- Big crowds celebrated at the Cotton Festival today in Berlin, Georgia.

Over 25 vendors were set up with arts and crafts and food. Several bands took the stage giving the crowd some live entertainment.

The Colquitt County fire department even cut up several old cars demonstrating the jaws of life. There were also tours given of the local cotton gin.

"We are home to the Berlin BTC Gin. They gin quite a lot of cotton for this area. It's one of the main money makers for a lot of farmers here. It's real important in our economy here in Berlin," said Chairman Tony Maples.

"It's a good time to meet your neighbors and just have a good time. It's good, clean, everyday fun, just fun," said Treasurer Barbara Williams.

This is the first cotton festival in five years. The City of Berlin hopes to continue for years to come.
