Albany -- Georgia State Patrol Troopers have issued arrest warrants for the man they say escaped after a high speed chase Tuesday night in Worth County. They think it was 27-year-old Kavowski Spurlin of Albany.
Arrest warrants charge him with fleeing from police, theft by taking, and DUI marijuana, and seven traffic violations. Spurlin was released from Autry State Prison August 31, where he served time for aggravated assault.
Troopers say Spurlin was driving a Chevy Malibu on Georgia 300 that was clocked at 90 miles hour. The driver refused to stop for troopers, but instead pulled into the Worthy Manor neighborhood.
Two other men in the car were arrested, but Spurlin ran into a cotton field. Law enforcement from several counties, helicopters, and bloodhounds hunted for hours, but he escaped.
Troopers say Spurlin and the two men were returning from Atlanta and were smoking marijuana in the car. They believe more drugs were involved in the case.
If you have any information about Spurlin, call the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office or CRIME STOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
