Albany -- An 18 year old gang member is in jail, charged with shooting that Monroe High student last week.
Police say Montrell Mallard confessed to shooting 17 year old Dearious Williams September 20th. He was shot four times in the back and head, but Police say Williams is recovering.
Investigators say the gangsters didn't target Williams, they targeted his neighborhood, which is a rival gang's territory.
They say Williams was shot just because he was the first person they saw. Albany Police Lt. Kendra Wilson said "He said it was at random. He said he was standing out on a bike, and some guys came by pointing a gun at him. And they retaliated on anyone they saw. But we are still investigating it, because it's not all adding up."
Police have taken arrest warrants for 20 year old Kentrell Reed, who they say also shot Williams.
Investigators say he should be considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information, call CRIME STOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
