Riverfront District to become reality

September 25, 2007

Albany - Albany's Riverfront District may become a reality Tuesday night. Commissioners are expected to vote on a proposed ordinance that has seen lots of changes before coming to the board for a final vote.

One of the biggest changes is the hours bands can play amplified music. Originally, bands weren't going to be permitted to play after midnight on weekends, but those hours have been extended.

"Authorizing those kind of businesses, entertainment to stay open until 2:55 AM the following day because that's consistent with the liquor sales ordinance and to the extent that they are able to ensure us that they won't inhibit residential ability to sleep, they won't impede homes in the area," said Assistant City Manager James Taylor.

The riverfront district will extend to both the east and west sides of the Flint River in the downtown area.
