Albany--An Albany woman is dead, and police are looking for answers into her murder.

Around 10:45 PM Monday, police responded to 2401 Notthingham Way where they discovered a woman shot dead in her apartment.  Investigators are treating the death as a homicide.

Police say the victim is a white woman, forty-six years of age, and she died from a single gunshot wound to the head.  She lived in apartment #56 at the Nottingham North Apartment complex.

EMS initially responded to the apartment in reference to a cardiac arrest, however, when EMS crews arrived at the apartment, they discovered the woman already dead from that gun shot wound. EMS quickly called Albany police.

Police are still investigating the scene. They won't say if they have any suspects at this time, however, they are questioning several people.

"The case is still upon investigation. Like I said, investigators are following up on any leads that they have at this time," says Lt. Kenn Singleton.

We spoke to neighbors living near the victim, they said they didn't hear any noise, not even a gun shot, that would indicate something suspicious taking place.

Police won't say who made the initial 911 call to EMS. The victim's name won't be released until police can notify the woman's next of kin.

Investigators and police officers canvassed the area where the shooting took place for possible leads and information pertaining to this case.

Her body is being sent to the Moultrie Crime Lab for further investigation. If anyone has information pertaining to the woman's death, you're asked to call the Albany Police Department at 431-2100.
