Tift County -- A tractor-trailer rig collided with a crane in a construction zone on Interstate 75, about mile marker 53, near the Tift-Cook County line this morning about 6:30.

Witnesses tell us that the semi caught fire, and appears to have burned completely. We are told that the driver, Jose Alberto Galindo, age 41, was ejected from the semi, and workers from Archer-Western Construction Company rendered aid on the scene. The crane was not occupied at the time.

Galindo was taken to Tift Regional Medical Center. Another crane is being sent to remove the wreckage.

The Georgia State Patrol tells us that witnesses say the truck was weaving in traffic as it headed north, crossed  into the median, running over a water barrier, and the collided into the crane.  The impact drove the crane about 30 feet. Both vehicles caught fire.

One Southbound lane of I-75 is open again. The Northbound lanes on I-75 are closed temporarily and traffic is re-routed to US 41 at the Lenox Exit, which is Exit 49. Officials hope this detour will not last long.
