Albany -- City Manager Alfred Lott says the interim finance director is the best qualified candidate for the top spot on a permanent basis.
Krista Newton is the only finalist for the job. She's served as the Interim Finance Director since Bob Jones resigned.
Newton has worked with the city for about ten years in both the information technology department and as an internal auditor.

September 17, 2007 - Krista M. Newton (Kris), currently employed by the City of Albany, GA., has been selected as the best qualified candidate for the Finance Director position, Albany City Manager Alfred Lott announced today.
Ms. Newton serves the City of Albany currently as Interim Finance Director, and has been with the Information Technology (IT) Department as IT Project Manager for two and one half years. Prior to that, she served as Internal Auditor in the City's Finance Department for eight years.
She has received a Master of Business Administration in Management from Albany State University (ASU), and BS degree in Business Management from ASU. She is currently enrolled at ASU in both accounting and auditing coursework
The City is providing public notice of Mr. Lott's decision on the best qualified candidate in compliance with Georgia's open records law. At least 14 days must now pass before there is final action on selecting a Finance Director.
