Valdosta-- At least 100 firefighters battled a fire at a Valdosta school Tuesday night. The fire started shortly before 9:30 at Pinevale Learning Center, that's the alternative school on Old Lake Park Road. Fifteen police officers were also on scene for security and traffic control.
About 11:15 p.m., firefighters told WALB News Ten the fire was "mostly under control," but smoke was still billowing from the building. Investigators are working all leads, including arson. Superintendent Sam Allen says firefighters will bring in arson dogs to help determine the cause of the fire.
About 170 students attend the school. Administrators called off classes for Wednesday but hope to resume classes Thursday at the old elemntary school building next door."Tomorrow we will be doing all the moving, putting in the internet connection, putting in mobile labs, our staff will be working all night and first thing in the morning and those kids will be back into the classroom on Thursday morning," Allen.
