Peanuts pitcher signs with Cubs

Albany - After pitching the South Georgia Peanuts to the South Coast League Championship, righthander Dumas Garcia will get his chance with a major league organization.

Garcia has signed with the Chicago Cubs ccording to the South Coast League will report immediately to the Cubs fall instructional team in Arizona.

Dumas Garcia was 7-4 this season and was the winning pitcher in game one of the South Coast League Championship series.

He had 71 strikeouts in 81 innings.

Garcia is from Colombia where he played for a team sponsored by Atlanta Braves shortstop Edgar Renteria.

Former Peanuts outfielder Chris Demons, who was traded from South Georgia to Aiken in August, signed with Toronto last week.

Those signings bring to five the number of players on the Peanuts roster this season who signed with major league organizations during the SCL's first season.
