Albany -- Major traffic changes are underway at one of the area's largest employers, the Marine Corps Logistics Base.
A $1.7 million repaving project began Monday at the base's Main Gate entrance.
It will force motorists to use alternate routes into and out of the Marine Base until at least October 17th.
"For the safety of the workers here, the commanding officer of the MCLB decided to close the main gate and re-route traffic to the truck road gate here off Fleming Road, as well as the Mock Road Gate and the Johnson Road gate. The closure should be in effect for about 30 days, weather pending," said MCLB Albany Public Affairs Specialist Art Powell.
Alternate routes in and out of MCLB Albany:
Truck Gate on Fleming Road will serve as the Main Gate providing two-way traffic flow.
Johnson Road Gate will also provide two-way traffic flow.
The Mock Road Gate will be open for in-bound traffic only from 6-8 a.m. Monday-Friday.
The Mock Road Gate will be open for out-bound traffic from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
The Mock Road Gate will be closed at all other times, including weekends.
Parents who drop off their kids at the CHRO parking lot bus stop, will be directed by signage to a drop-off spot on the base, adjacent to the CHRO parking lot.
