Knights back earns player of week honors

September 6, 2007

Albany - Deerfield-Windsor coach Allen Lowe was excited during the summer when thinking about the running game his team would have this season.

The Knights have only played one game but their rushing attack appears to be as good as advertised.

So good that Deerfield-Windsor running back John Smith is this week's Orthopaedic Associates Albany Area Player of the Week.

Dr. Tim Darden made the awards presentation to John at school.

Smith earned the award after rushing for 232 yards and two touchdowns in Deerfield-Windsor's big road win last week at George Walton.

Smith says the credit for his performance belongs to his offensive line.

John Smith said "We had good blocking. We have got a good line. We are strong, big. They block pretty good."

Deerfield-Windsor plays at home Friday night against Tiftarea.
