Second arrest made in heavy machinery theft ring

Calhoun County-  A Smithville Police officer was arrested Tuesday night for his connection in a heavy machinery theft ring.

Thirty one year old Terrance Walker is charged with theft by receiving stolen property and owning, operating, or conducting a chop shop.

Two weeks ago, the Calhoun County Sheriff's office stopped a black and white tractor trailer believed to be stolen. When police looked inside the truck they found the a hidden vehicle identification number that proved it was stolen from Dexter Axle in Monticello.

The tag receipt, title and insurance all lead back to Smithville Police Officer Terrance Walker.

Lee County Sheriff's deputies arrested Walker Tuesday and held him for Calhoun County. Vernon Walker has also been charged in the case and more arrests are expected.
