Dougherty County-  Many pedestrian, car collisions could be avoided if pedestrians took more cautions while walking in traffic.

Dougherty County Safe Communities Coordinator Michele DeMott says you should always walk facing traffic. If you can't use a sidewalk, walk as close to the shoulder as possible. DeMott recommends wearing light colored clothing if you need to walk alongside a roadway, but a reflective vest is better.

"Put on a reflective vest they're very inexpensive you can pick them up at sporting goods stores or Wal-Mart or any of the larger big box retailers for just a few dollars it makes you more visible," said Michele DeMott, Safe Communities Coordinator.

DeMott says, reflectors on tennis shoes are good, but don't provide enough warning. She also cautions pedestrians not to cross in the middle of a street, but use the crosswalk.
