Wildcats and Warriors will finish game Monday

August 30, 2007

Undated -  The high school football season starts for most teams Friday but a few games were played on Thursday.

In Camilla, Westwood was leading Southwest Georgia Academy 13-0 when the game was stopped with just over eight minutes to play in the fourth quarter due to lightning.

The game could not be resumed and under GISA rules the two headmasters of both schools have 48 hours to decide to finish the game.

The two schools have agreed to play the final eight minutes Monday night at 6:00 p.m. at Centennial Stadium.

SGA had the football in Westwood territory at the time the game was suspended.

Westwood head coach and headmaster Ross Worsham says that SGA was adamant about finsihing the game.

Worsham is not happy that the game has to be finished because he only has 22 players on his roster and the fact the Wildcats will have a short week to prepare for next week's game at Sherwood Christian.

Worsham would like to see the GISA adopt tbe Georgia High School Association rule where any game stopped after the first half and cannot be resumed is an official game and the score at the time is the final score.

Worsham plans to bring that point up at the next GISA headmasters meeting.

In Chula, Tiftarea Academy beats Dawson Street Christian School 33-6.

Dawson Street's head coach is Vince Sutton who as a player lost to Tift County in the 1983 state championship game.
