Valdosta - A new era in Valdosta State football will begin Saturday night in the Blazers season opener against Albany State.
The Dean Machine will take the field in the first game for Valdosta State head coach David Dean.
Dean promoted from his offensive coordinator position last year and looking to continue the winning tradition the Blazers enjoyed under Chris Hatcher for the past seven seasons.
Dean's first team has plenty of experience with 25 seniors and 22 returning starters.
The only thing going against Dean in his opener is that Albany State already has a game under its belt.
David Dean said "Just the fact you have an opportunity to go out and play in a game and be in live situations against other personnel instead of your own personnel. that, is a definite advantage as well."
Valdosta State hosts Albany State at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
