Albany - The Lily Pad opened in Albany Wednesday. It's a sexual assault and child abuse center where victims of sex crimes can get physical examinations.

Statistics show about 200 sex assault exams a year are performed on victims in Dougherty County, most of whom are children.

"It allows the victims and their families some privacy in what is obviously an unfortunate and traumatizing time period and we can do it here in a more private setting," said Board President Faison Middleton.

The Lily Pad is at 3rd Avenue and North Jackson Street. Its services are available 24-hours a day.
