Dawson - Since Terrell Academy opened its doors almost 40 years ago, Don Beard has been a coach on the Eagles football program.
On Friday night, Terrell Academy will honor Beard by naming their field in his honor before the Eagles season opener.
Beard was Terrell Academy's head coach during the Eagles run of three consecutive state titles in the 1990's and has stayed on as an assistant after stepping down as head coach ten years ago.
Beard in fact retired from teaching back in the spring but came back to teach one class this year because the school needed him.
Don Beard said "It is quite an honor. It is very humbling. I really don't know what to say except I appreciate it very much."
The ceremonies honoring Don Beard will start at 7:45 p.m. on Friday and the Eagles will kick off their game with Sherwood Christian at 8:00 p.m. in Dawson.
