Dougherty County -- Dougherty County investigators are worried that criminals are targeting Hispanics after gunmen beat and robbed one family and tried to rob another family in South Dougherty County over the weekend.

Alexander Sales and Lorena Mendez say about 9:30 Sunday night at least four men with guns and sticks forced their way into their mobile home at Paradise Village on Holly Drive. The robbers stole $1500, a cell phone,  and car keys.

Friday at Bronze Bell Park on U-S 19, Saltero Leona said two men confronted him for money before screams from relatives scared the men away. The two men fired at least two shots in the air as they ran.

Dougherty County Police say more Hispanic crime victims understand to call Police for help. Captain Jimmy Sexton said "I think in the past there were robberies that went unreported. Most of the time now we are getting calls."

Police say the men who attempted the Bronze Bell Park robbery fled in a white Ford Explorer or Expedition.
