Police were familiar with murder suspect

August 27, 2007

Albany -- There is new information coming to light about a domestic violence murder. In the last year,  Albany Police responded eight times to the home where the murder happened last week.

Twenty-six-year old Earnest Sims, III remains hospitalized in Tallahassee under heavy guard. Franklin County Deputies say Sims stabbed himself in the chest and slashed his wrists after a standoff a home in East Point, Florida Thursday.

Albany Police say Sims went to Florida to hide at a friend's house after he stabbed his girlfriend,  24-year old Jessica Acres as she held their 7-month-old son outside their home on Crescent Drive late Wednesday night.

Acres called 911 at two o'clock that morning because Sims was knocking on her door and threatening to shoot her. Officers simply gave Sims a verbal warning.

Albany Police are now working to extradite Sims to Georgia to face murder charges.
