Homerville - Clinch County Commissioners have voted to hire one full time and one part time employee to assist in the Clerk of Courts office after the recent resignation of the longtime clerk.

Former Clerk of Court Danny Lecesse resigned earlier this month after becoming the first to be prosecuted in a federal investigation of an account created by Superior Court Judge Brooks Blitch.

Court documents said Lecesse and six co-conspirators received over 70 thousand dollars from that account.

Deputy Clerk Melinda Davis is filling his vacant position, even though her name is listed in an audit as having collected over 20 thousand dollars.

Commissioners say if she is prosecuted, the probate judge would then appoint someone to fill the Clerk of Courts position.
