Heavy rain and wind pound parts of south Georgia

August 23, 2007

Lee County --  Traffic was bumper to bumper as crews with the Lee County public works removed several oak trees from the roadway along Highway 195 toward Leslie around 7:20 this morning.

The driver of a black Chevy Camaro tried to drive around one oak tree, but got bogged down on the side of the road doing so. Someone had to come pull him out.

Another tree along that same highway caused one driver of a truck to crash into it. Fortunately, he walked away with no injuries.

We also got several reports of power outages throughout south Georgia.

This morning's severe thunderstorms shut power off temporarily for homeowners living along Radium Springs Road in Albany.

Power crews were also busy repairing downed power lines throughout parts of Thomas County.
