Fitzgerald -- Playing in Region 1-AA for the first time last season, the Fitzgerald football team went a perfect 10-0, before falling in the opening round of the state playoffs.
Head coach Robby Pruitt says his team probably over-achieved in the regular season, and under-achieved in the playoffs, and that does provide motivation for this year.
The Purple Hurricanes will not have an easy time matching their success from last season, as Fitzgerald returns just three starters on offense and four on defense.
Junior Brad Taylor will be back at quarterback this season, protected by two returning offensive lineman. Pruitt says his young team is looking for another region title in 2007.
"We don't have many seniors this year," says Pruitt, "but the few we have are really stepping forth and doing the things we're asking them to do. We got a long way to go, and a lot of holes to fill, but the enthusiasm has been there, and they've worked hard, and gave us good effort, and that's what's important right now."
The Hurricanes play a scrimmage at Turner County Friday night at 7:30pm.
