Albany- With the height of hurricane season arriving, the American Red Cross has issued a call for help.
Sunday, the Southwest Georgia Chapter sent volunteers to a staging area in Little Rock, Arkansas in case Hurricane Dean made landfall in the U.S. Those volunteers are on their way back Monday, but it renewed the call for both volunteers and financial donations.
"We are an agency of United Way, however united way is just so stretched to the limit, they help so many other agencies and they can't give us all the funds we need to do what we have to do, what the people want us to do, and what we're expected to do, what we want to do, so we need people to be generous," said Mari McEwen, Southwest Georgia ARC Executive Director.
An unusually high number of summer house fires depleted cash donations. The Red Cross also paid out 32-thousand dollars in March to help tornado victims.
To donate you can send a check to the American Red Cross 500 Pine Ave. Albany, Georgia 31701. To sign up to be a volunteer you can stop by the office or contact the American Red Cross at (229)436-4845.
