Reward offered in jewelry store theft

August 15, 2007

Albany -- A reward is now offered in that brazen jewelry heist at the Albany Mall.

Surveillance video shows a man walked into the Gold N Diamonds Store Monday, slipped over, got the manager's keys, unlocked the display case and stole seven men's bracelets.

All this happens while the manager talks to a woman at the front of the store. Now Investigators believe the man and woman were working together to distract the owner, and there may have been a third person in the theft team.

Investigators have found arrest warrants for a team of distraction thieves who have burglarized several jewelry stores using the exact same techniques from California to New Jersey. Police warn South Georgia stores that this team could be working in this area. Albany Police Lt. Kenn Singleton said  "we've got word that they may have been in Macon. Maybe down in Florida as well. So there is a possibility that this type of incident may have taken place here in the city of Albany."

The Gold N Diamonds store owner has offered a one thousand dollar reward for information about these thieves. If you can help, call CRIME STOPPERS at 436 TIPS.
