Betty Johnson seeks commission seat

August 15, 2007

Leesburg -- Lee County's long-time Tax Commissioner will step down to run for county commission.

While Betty Johnson's retiring after 25 years as tax commissioner, she hopes that won't end her career of public service.

Johnson will run for the Leesburg district seat currently held by Jo Ealum.

She says changes need to be made in Lee County, and she hopes to resolve two main issues if she gets elected.

"I want all employees in the county treated equally, based on responsibility, and that's not being done. My second priority is to serve all the people of Lee County, not just a  hand selected few, or special interest groups," said Johnson.

Johnson said she's received a lot of encouragement to run for the seat.

The primary will be held July 15th.
