This thief has some nerve!

August 14, 2007

Albany -- A brazen thief unlocks an Albany Mall jewelry store display case and steals seven bracelets, and it's all caught on surveillance video.

The tape shows a man in a tan shirt and blue jeans is shopping and talking on his phone in the Gold N Diamonds at the Albany Mall Monday afternoon about 4:00. The store manager is occupied with a woman at the front of the store. When the suspect walks over to the office counter and takes the manager's keys.

You can see him go to the counter, and turn a display to block the manager's view. Later he leans over the display counter and unlocks it with the keys, and then strolls away.

Seconds later he comes back, slides open the case, and picks up seven gold and diamond bracelets, and walks out of the store. Investigators are still trying to determine how much the jewelry is worth, and are asking your help in identifying this man.

"We would also like to know who the female is that is a customer. We would like to get her identity so that we can have her come down and talk with our investigation," said APD's Kenn Singleton.

If you have any information about this theft suspect, or the customer, call Albany Police or CRIME STOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
