Homerville - Clinch County Clerk of Courts Danny Lecesse has resigned after pleading guilty to federal mail fraud charges last week.

The Clinch County Commission Office says Chief Deputy Clerk of Courts Melinda Davis will act as interim clerk until Lecesse's term expires in 2008.

He pleaded guilty to mail fraud charges in federal court in Macon, becoming the first person prosecuted in the federal investigation of a secret account created by Superior Court Judge Brooks Blitch.

The account paid five court employees over 73 thousand dollars since 1992, funded by the illegal collection of fees from misdemeanor defendants.
