Valdosta restructures

August 13, 2007

Valdosta - To ease growing pains, Valdosta leaders have reorganized the way the city is structured.

The new structure created the position of two deputy city managers and an assistant city manager.

They say this move will lighten the increasing large load of the city manager while improving the delivery and functionality of city services.

The new plan was modeled after a similar plan in Columbus and took City Manager Larry Hanson several months to compose.  "So we tried to step back say, if we were starting over how would we organize things and where would we place each division and each group of people to then encourage working together better and to streamline operations," Hanson says.

Former Community Development Director Mara Register was named assistant city manager.

John Whitehead was named Deputy City Manager for Operations and Mark Barber will serve as Deputy City Manager for Administration.
