Albany -- Georgia's critical blood shortage is getting worse. The supply is so low that several hospitals in the state postponed surgeries

That has not happened in Albany, but the blood supply here is critically low.

Type-O blood is needed most because it is universal and is used during emergencies when other blood types are not readily available.

"I know people hear us constantly asking, but I am begging," said Andrea Tatum of the Red Cross. "I have been updated on the seriousness of it. And this is really serious, we have less than a days supply of the O blood."

There will be a blood drive from eight to two Saturday at the American Red Cross donor center of Dawson Road.

Donors will get free t-shirts.
