Albany - Work on the Ray Charles Plaza in Downtown Albany should be complete in about two and a half months. Construction crews are busy preparing the groundwork at the site for the fountain and statue of Charles.

Originally, ATI hoped to complete the plaza by Charles' birthday on September 23rd, but it looks like it will be late October before a grand opening celebration will be held.

ATI Interim CEO Greg McCormack said, "We've added back in some things that we thought we were not going to be able to do which is we've got a connection into the riverfront trail now so you can come up to the park from the trail or vise versa. It's going to be an exciting project."

The statue of Charles is complete and waiting to be shipped to Albany.
