Albany -- Many Dougherty County school children got supplies during Monday night's elementary school open houses.

The Delta Eta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority collected supplies and put bags together.

Members passed them out to parents at several elementary schools in Dougherty County tonight.

"We have a two fold purpose. We try to assist parents by differentiating the cost purchasing those back to school supplies," said Wendy Wilson. "More importantly we are the proponents of education. We want to eliminate any excuses or any reasons why students can't be successful."

The bags were filled with paper, folders, pencils, crayons and rulers. The collection and distribution is an annual project for the sorority.
